Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities (SFSC) is a strengths-based community education programme designed to increase parents’ and carers’ confidence and skills through group discussions, family activities and practical hands-on sessions.
SFSC is an inclusive, evidence-based parenting programme, designed to specifically promote protective factors which are associated with effective parenting and better outcomes for children. At the heart of the SFSC programme is an ethos of equality, diversity and inclusion and these themes run throughout the course.
The course aims to:
Help parents reflect and think about how experiences may influence their parenting values
Gain a better understanding of child development
Learn positive discipline strategies and techniques
Help with routines and behaviour
Help manage conflict and anger
Improve confidence & self esteem
Help with relaxation and self-care
Improve family relationships
Please note that, in order for the group to work well together, places are limited to 6 participants on this course and we ask participants to make the commitment that they will be able to attend all 7 sessions. If you need to cancel before the course starts, please give us as much notice as possible, so we can offer your place to someone else.
This course will take place at our usual venue, the Crossway Centre, Richmond Road, Twickenham TW1 2PD. This is behind St Stephen’s Church, very near Marble Hill Park, on the road that goes from Richmond to Twickenham. There is a pay and display car park at Marble Hill Park (currently £2.50 for up to 3 hours), free on street parking in nearby roads after 4.30pm or with a blue badge; bus numbers 33, 490, H22, R70 and R68 stop just outside the church and bus number H37 stops just round the corner.
We regret that there is no childcare available, so please make your own arrangements. The course will finish in time for school pick up. You are welcome to bring a sandwich with you for lunch; coffee, tea and snacks will be provided.
For our course we are suggesting a donation of £20 which includes your workbook. This fee is payable in advance by bank transfer or by PayPal via our website when your place is confirmed. If you are in financial difficulties, please speak to us about a bursary place.
